Teacher's Pest by Charles Gilman

Synopsis:
DON'T BE FOOLED by his friendly smile, his perfect manners, or his shiny red apple. Student council president Howard Mergler is actually a sinister bug-monster in disguise—and he's summoning swarms of roaches, wasps, fleas, and head lice into the corridors of Lovecraft Middle School!  Twelve-year-old Robert Arthur is the only student who can stop him--but he'll need help from his best friends: the school bully, the school ghost, and an extremely courageous two-headed rat.

This third novel in the Lovecraft Middle School series begins right where Professor Gargoyle and The Slither Sisters ended—with more action, more adventure, and more outrageous monsters!

My Thoughts:

For those of you who watch book related things on YouTube, or have a Goodreads account, you know the Tales from Lovecraft Middle School series has gotten incredibly popular lately. There is a reason for that. It’s fantastic. The series has quickly become one of my favorite middle grade reads. Teacher's Pest is the best book in the series so far, in my opinion. The plot was fun and fast-paced. It caught my attention easily and reeled me in. The book brought back the same characters we know and love from the other two novels. Without the addition of any new characters, Pip and Squeak are still my favorites. I don’t think I would have survived in Lovecraft Middle School. This book in the series is about insects, and I have an insect phobia. I’m excited to read the next book in the series to see how Robert’s mother's news effects everyone.

I give Teacher’s Pest: 5/5.

The Slither Sisters by Charles Gilman

Synopsis:
This second novel in the Tales from Lovecraft Middle School series begins right where Professor Gargoyle ended.  Seventh-grader Robert Arthur has discovered that two of his classmates are actually sinister snake-women in disguise. Even worse, his new middle school is full of “gates” to a terrifying alternate dimension – a haunted mansion full of strange spirits and monstrous beasts.  For Robert to protect his teachers and classmates, he'll need to return to this haunted dimension with his best friends Glenn and Karina.   Can they uncover the secrets of Lovecraft Middle School before it's too late?

The Slither Sisters features more bizarre beasts, more strange mysteries, and more adventure.  It's perfect for readers ages 10 and up. Best of all, the cover features a state-of-the-art “morphing” photo portrait – so you can personally witness the sisters transforming into their slithering alter egos.  You won't believe your eyes!

My Thoughts:

The Slither Sisters was a great sequel to Professor Gargoyle. The Slither Sisters is the second book in the Tales From Lovecraft Middle School series. The book begins with Sara, one of the twins who was abducted, running for student council. However, her and her sister have a secret that could destroy the whole middle school, and eventually the world. This book was a fast-paced read. I read it in a little over an hour. I liked the book, but not as well as I like the first book in the series. There weren’t many new characters. However, there was a lot of plot development. The ending shocked me. I didn’t see it coming at all. I can’t wait to see how the author incorporates the ending into the next book.

I give The Slither Sisters: 4/5.

House of Secrets by Ned Vizzini and Christopher Columbus

Synopsis:
The Walker kids had it all: loving parents, a big house in San Francisco, all the latest video games . . . but everything changed when their father lost his job as a result of an inexplicable transgression. Now the family is moving into Kristoff House, a mysterious place built nearly a century earlier by Denver Kristoff, a troubled writer with a penchant for the occult.

Suddenly the siblings find themselves launched on an epic journey into a mash-up world born of Kristoff’s dangerous imagination, to retrieve a dark book of untold power, uncover the Walker family’s secret history and save their parents . . . and maybe even the world.

My Thoughts:

I’m not sure how I feel about House of Secrets. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it either. It was a little disappointing. There was a lot of positive hype surrounding the book. In the end, it turned out to be an okay book. It wasn’t spectacular like people were saying. House of Secrets started out really slow. It took me 200 pages to get into, which is a little less than half the book. The author did not make me feel anything for the characters. I could have cared less whether they had lived or died. However, I do think that some of the elements of the plot were fun. The pirates were fun to read about. Also, Jagger made me laugh. I will probably read the second book in the series when it comes out. However, it won't be very high on my most anticipated list.

I give House of Secrets: 3.5/5.

Four Seconds to Lose cover reveal

Owning a strip club isn’t the fantasy most guys expect it to be. With long hours, a staff with enough issues to keep a psych ward in business, and the police regularly on his case, twenty-nine year old Cain is starting to second guess his unspoken mission to save the women he employs. And then blond, brown-eyed Charlie Rourke walks through his door, and things get really complicated. Cain abides by a strict “no sleeping with the staff” rule. But being around Charlie challenges Cain’s self-control…and it’s been a long time since any woman has done that.
Twenty-two-year old Charlie Rourke needs a lot of money, really fast, in order to vanish before it’s too late. Taking her clothes off for men makes her stomach curl but Charlie tells herself that at least she’s putting her acting and dancing skills to good use. And though her fellow dancers seem eager to nab their sexy, sophisticated, and genuinely caring boss, she’s not interested. After all, Charlie Rourke doesn’t really exist—and the girl pretending to be her doesn’t need to complicate her life with romance.
Unfortunately, Charlie soon discovers that developing feelings for Cain is inevitable, that those feelings may not be unrequited—but losing him when he finds out what she’s involved with will be more painful than any other sentence awaiting her.

FOUR SECONDS TO LOSE is due to be released November 4, 2013. Here are a few links that you can use to pre-order the book.
