2,000 Likes giveaway-- Tidal by Amanda Hocking and a surprise book

This week, the Kayla's Reads and Reviews Facebook page reached 2,000 likes. I want to thank each and every one of you that liked the page, shared, tweeted, or just generally helped to get the word out. I think the best way to do that is to have a giveaway. I am giving away a copy of Tidal by Amanda Hocking, along with a surprise book. Please note that Tidal is the third book in the Watersong series. The other book that I pick will be from a first in a series.

The magical world of Watersong is about to change forever. The answers Gemma and her friends have been searching for are finally revealed - but evil is closing in and time is running out....
Gemma and Harper Fisher are facing the fight of their lives. Gemma has been cursed with extraordinary powers that have a terrifying dark side, but she's finally found what she needs - a way to break the curse and become human again. However, finding the means to do it will be her greatest challenge yet. And now Penn, Lexi, and Thea - the gorgeous but deadly creatures who cursed her - are determined to kill her before she has a chance. Making matters worse, Penn has her sights set on Daniel - the guy Harper loves - and Penn always gets what she wants.
As Gemma and Harper race to break the curse before it's too late, they're thrust deeper into a mythical world of immortal secrets. They must into their enemies' past to find the answers they need, even if it means being drawn deeper into their savagely beautiful world. But one of the girls is not what she seems...and Gemma finds an unlikely ally as she struggles to save herself. Will it be enough to break an ancient curse that no one has ever escaped from alive?

Viper Girl vs. The Poltergeist Pirate Opossum of Plundering Peril by Tony Saylor

Synopsis:
Viper girl is enjoying an ordinary night playing her favorite video game. When she goes down to the kitchen to get a snack, she is shocked to discover a tall, thin ninja who has come to warn her that a ghostly pirate rodent is on his way to find her ... and its not to wish her well. The ninja comes bearing a gift -- something she'll need to defeat her foe. Then, the pirate shows up and Viper Girl's evening of comic weirdness and awesome adventure really begins!

My Thoughts:

Viper Girl vs. The Poltergeist Pirate Opossum of Plundering Peril is a cute children’s book. I love the author’s sense of humor. I also loved all the geeky video game references. I liked that the book defied the usual stereotype. Boys aren’t the only ones who can play video games. Girls can also play and kick butt while doing so. Also, girls can have nerdy interests such as live action role playing and ninjas. I thought the illustrations in the book were cute. I liked the author’s illustration style. It’s kind of funky and different. The fox was adorable. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. I recommend this book for younger gamers and the inner nerd in all of us.

I give Viper Girl vs. The Poltergeist Pirate Opossum of Plundering Peril: 5/5.

What About Daisy by Maryam Faresh

Synopsis:
An uplifting & inspiring children's story about Daisy, a rescue dog born deafblind in search of her forever home. With the help of her canine rescue mom, Ms. Didi, her two fairies, Bella & Beva and a three legged cat named Louie, the adventure to find Daisy her loving home will entertain and warm your heart.

My Thoughts:

What About Daisy is a wonderful children’s book. It teaches an important lesson. Even if someone is different than you or has a disability, you should not make fun of them. Just because someone has a disability doesn’t make them any less special. Daisy is a blind and deaf dog. Her mother is worried that no one will adopt her. However, due to Daisy being special, she goes on adventures with her friends. She finally gets adopted by a special woman who has a disability. The woman is in a wheelchair. This is a great book that I think every child should read. Maybe if they did there would be less bullying in the world. I also loved that the animals ‘autographed’ my book. I thought it was adorable.

I give What About Daisy: 5/5.

Too Purpley by Jean Reidy

Synopsis:
Too purpley, too tickly, too puckery, too prickly!

There is not a single outfit in the closet that our little fashion plate wants to wear. She tries on everything, but nothing is quite right. And the outfits are getting wilder by the minute!

It's a scene that is all too familiar to parents, wrapped up in a package that is all too difficult to resist: a playful rhyme scheme and colorful, textile-driven art.

My Thoughts:

Too Purpley is a cute children’s book. Too Purpley is about a girl who doesn’t like what her mother picks out for her to wear. Finally she finds the perfect outfit. I’m sure a lot of parents and children can identify with this book. I know that when I was a kid, I was horribly picky about what I wanted to wear. I wouldn’t wear dresses or anything frilly. The illustrations are adorable. I like the turtle. It wears everything that the girl wears. The turtle also helps her when her clothes are uncomfortable. I’m excited to read the next book in the series, Too Princessy. I recommend this book for girls three and older.

I give too Purpley: 5/5.

The Girl Who Sniffed Too Much by Michael J. Weber

Synopsis:
Suzie loves her dog Dillon but finds she is a bit jealous of what he can do and she can't. Walk with them as Suzie learns a lesson she won't soon forget.

My Thoughts:

The Girl Who Sniffed Too Much is a funny children’s book. A girl wants to be like her best friend Dillon. Dillon is a dog that sniffs everything around him. Suzie decides to start sniffing everything in sight as well. However, she learns a hard lesson. Not everything should be sniffed. Some things have a horrible smell. The illustrations made me laugh. My favorite one is of Suzie sniffing the flowers. I got a chuckle out of the illustration of Suzie’s dad farting. I’m excited for Michael J. Weber’s next children's book.

I give The Girl Who Sniffed Too Much: 5/5.

Little Green by Arnold Rudnick

Synopsis:
Little Green Frog hops out of the swamp, asking "Isn't it possible?" on his search for a way to be special.

My Thoughts:

Little Green is a great book for children who are just learning how to read. It reminds me of the first level I can read books that I loved when I was a kid. Little Green teaches kids an important lesson. No matter what always be yourself. Little Green wants to be a goose, a horse, and a koi fish. However, he doesn’t seem to fit in anywhere. When he hangs out with the other frogs, he finds out that he is a frog. When he acts like a frog, he helps others achieve their dreams of becoming whatever they want to be. I recommend this book for children first grade and older, especially boys.

I give Little Green: 4/5.

Zero the Hero by Joan Holub

Synopsis:
Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. That’s what all the other numbers think of Zero. He doesn’t add anything in addition. He’s of no use in division. And don’t even ask what he does in multiplication. (Hint: Poof!) But Zero knows he’s worth a lot, and when the other numbers get into trouble, he swoops in to prove that his talents are innumerable.

My Thoughts:

Zero the Hero is a great children’s book. It teaches children a lot of useful information about numbers. From this book, children can learn how to count from one to ten. It also teaches a lot of math skills. Children can learn division, subtraction, multiplication, and addition. They can also learn how to count in roman numerals. The illustration of Zero multiplying by a rock is a little silly but it reinforces that multiplying anything by zero is zero. I like the numbers witty and punny commentary. I think kids as young as four should read this book because it makes math easy to understand at a young age.

I give Zero the Hero: 4/5.
