My Thoughts:
James Saves the Moon is an adorable children's story. It gives kids hope and teaches them an important lesson: never give up on you dreams, no matter how foolish they may seem. The author adds a lot of Iceland customs and fairy tales, such as the legend of the Huldufolk. She then goes on to explain what each thing is in detail, which kind of annoyed me. If I wanted to know more about dried fish, I could look it up online. From a child's perspective though, I guess it might be easier to explain it instead of Googling it. The illustrations in the book are very well drawn. They almost make the reader feel like they are in the story, seeing it for themselves. I think my favorite character was Syvok. He was witty and a joy to listen to. He made me chuckle more than once. This is a great book for beginning readers. I can't wait to see where James' adventures will take him next.
